The smallest of details can turn a nicely designed room into a room with a wow factor. A simple burlap pillow is transformed into a touch of luxe with the addition of this vintage crystal brooch. This is another quick and simple project that you can do in no time with a big pay off. Here’s what to do…
Pick out a brooch of your choice. You may have one already or you might need to pick one up at neighborhood antique market. They are usually very reasonably priced.
E-6000 glue
Small piece of scrap cardboard
Wooden skewer
Metal button with a shank back (I ran across this website that sells just the shanks. I don’t know anything about this site so you will have to check them out yourself before you purchase anything.)
Squeeze a small amount of glue onto the cardboard, like shown above.
Pick up a dollop of glue with the pointed end of the skewer
and apply it to the top of your button.
Press the button face side down onto the center back of your brooch. Let it dry for 24 hours. It is important to let it set completely before sewing it your pillow. Once it is dry, sew it onto your pillow.
My Grandmothers, Florence and Frankie, each had quite a collection of fun costume jewelry! Being the only granddaughter, I now have piles of vintage sparkle that are begging to be shown off! For this pillow, I chose to contrast the sparkle of smoky gray crystals with the rough nubby texture of washed burlap. The size and shape is so versatile and can be used in many different rooms in my home.
You can even add more detail by finishing the back with another button and pretty ribbon. I think it is nice to have little surprises that aren’t readily visible. They are like secrets that only you know about. It also makes this pillow reversible.
Do you have a brooch or maybe even a pendant that you would love to show off? Consider the possibilities that this touch can add to your home.

Hi Geneva, I don’t know what I would do without E-6000 glue! Our whole family seems to use it for one thing or another. It is the best glue to use on metal. Good to see you! ~Kristie
Love this idea. Wish I could “pin” it to use later.

I love anything burlap so I adore this idea. I have the broach that I wore on my wedding dress and have been wondering what I could do to display it. This look would be perfect! Your pillow and broach look perfect together. Visiting from Wow us Wednesdays. ~ Jamie
