For the past decade I have intended to head down to Round Top for the semi-annual flea market and antique show. I have put it on my calendar season after season and even made lodging reservations… but something always seems so important that I have canceled my trips. This year was no different… with so many commitments and little time to squeeze in a trip to Round Top, I had resigned myself to put it on the calendar for the fall and resolve to let nothing get in the way. However, last Thursday I had a crazy idea to drive down early Friday morning, shop for a few hours and drive back early Friday evening. How hard could it be? I could start by visiting Jeffree Turney, The Lone Ranger, and work the venues from there. At 4:00 am Sophie and I were up and going. We ended up leaving at 5:00 and arrived a little after 8:30, before many of the vendors were even open. First stop was, as planned, The Lone Ranger. His antiques were even more beautiful that I had imagined, based on his website. He definitely has “The Magic Finishing Touch”! I can see why Martha extended an invitation to feature his treasures. Fortunately, I got there early enough to visit with Jeffree before the crowds rolled in. He was very friendly and easy to talk to.
Unfortunately, I was so caught up in the excitement of shopping and realized about lunch time that I had not taken any pictures! So, I did a little back tracking and snapped a few photos to share…
Next stop was The Arbors, which was brimming with more wonderful European finds. Beautiful art, lots of antique linens and scads of these beautiful French antique chairs.
Further down the road, I saw some Blue Bonnets out of the corner of my eye and hollered at Sophie to take a picture, which she did, while telling me that they were not real at all. I took a more thorough look and realized they were painted metal! Oh well, they were still charming.
I am not sure what the name of this store is. Fortunately there was a place to park, so I pulled over and took a few pictures. Oh my! What beautiful linens and light fixtures!!!
Hmmm… This caught my eye while we were driving along at a snail’s pace so I snapped a photo.
Same here. I just love cowboy boots! They are the best! Looks like these probably have quite a few stories to tell!!!
I do wish we could have stayed longer, but I am happy with the few hours we had. We were able to shop for four hours and found a few goodies. Later, I will share more pictures of the best places we saw. All in all, it was definitely worth the drive down there and I will go back in the fall even if I only have one day to spend!!! I am already making my shopping list!
Kristie…..I want to go! Maybe I can tag along when you and Sophie go in the fall. I do have good hauling space in my vehicle….a big plus for a flea market compadre
! Donna
Let’s do it! We could find all sorts of trouble to get into! Too much fun!
Thank you, Kristie, for sharing your trip. This Carolina Girl has always wanted to go since Country Living started showcasing it years ago. The whites against the old boards on that store front – what a vignette! What did you purchase?
A question about the Swedish finish tutorial: Do you REALLY work like that on your countertop?
Hi Donna, Oh, that shop was amazing! I have more pictures of that store front, that I’ll post soon along with a pair of French chairs I found. You should put it on your calendar for the fall, it is really worth the time and effort to get down here!
